Detailed description

Important Notice: Volunteers must be aged 18 or older. We are only able to accommodate volunteers from Monday to Friday, during the hours of 08:30 to 16:00.

Do you want to make a real difference to the lives of rescue dogs? Join our Canine Care team as a Laundry Support volunteer and help keep our kennels clean, comfortable and fully stocked. From washing and drying bedding and towels, to processing donated toys and goodies for our dogs, this role plays a key part in making sure our dogs feel safe and warm while they await their forever homes.

What this involves:

  • Processing donated items (e.g., dog food, bedding, collars/leads), including assessment, sorting, storage and disposal of items
  • Washing, drying, folding and storing dog laundry
  • Keeping the laundry and storage areas clean, tidy and operational
  • Reporting any concerns about dogs’ behaviour, health and wellbeing to the centre staff
  • Reporting any faulty or damaged equipment to the centre staff

About You:

  • You know how to use a washing machine and tumble-dryer (although training will be given)
  • You are confident around dogs of various sizes and breeds
  • You have a positive and proactive attitude
  • You are reliable
  • You are conscientious and a team player
  • You are able to work on your own initiative
  • You feel comfortable working with, supporting and/or assisting other people
  • You are able to follow instructions
  • Some lifting may be required (e.g., donated bags of food or bedding); however, this is not mandatory

We recommend visiting our website to get an idea of the types of dogs we have in our care before applying for this role. Most of our dogs come to us as strays and their history is unknown, so many of them are still learning basic commands and manners.
