West Heath social activity group

We have a social activity group run at West Heath Community center running 10.30-12pm on the second Thursday of every month, which is free to attend and for those aged 75 and over.

This group enjoy seated chair yoga with an instructor and we're looking for volunteers to support this group.

We're on the search for a volunteer group coordinator, who will oversee the group, welcoming in new members, making sure everyone knows when and where the group is, supporting the engagement team with promoting the group in the local area and good with admin related roles. Currently we do not have a group coordinator for this social activity group, so we're keen to get someone in post as soon as possible and we're also interested in promoting this group for more referrals.

The practical details:

• This is a flexible voluntary role that can easily be fitted in around your own lifestyle and availability.
• Planning and organising the first activity group is likely to take several hours of your time, but once the activity group is up and running you’ll be volunteering for around four hours a month – roughly broken down into two hours planning and two hours attending the activity group.
• We’re looking for activity group coordinators who can commit to volunteering for at least 12 months.
• Expenses are paid for certain activities.
• Please note that you must be at least 18 years old to become a Re-engage volunteer.

We’re looking for activity group coordinators who have:

• Good admin and organisation skills
• Good problem-solving skills
• A friendly nature
• Good listening skills
• Good conversation skills
• Patience and understanding
• A passion for improving the lives of lonely and isolated older people
• Basic computer skills (our checks, training and activity group reports are all online and our charity is paperless)

We're also always on the look out for drivers who are available to pick up and drop off an older person who would otherwise not be able to attend and are at most risk of becoming isolated and lonely. This role is called "activity group driver" on our website. Not all our social activity groups will have attendees who require a driver, but we will keep you informed and offer alternative roles.

Not local to West Heath? We will be adding all of our social activity groups we have already running or soon to be starting, but we're also always looking at new areas we can explore to run a social activity group.
