Volunteers are required to provide additional learning support to individuals and groups under the full supervision of the class teacher, throughout the academic year, in a variety of accredited and vocational courses at different levels (from beginners to advanced) including: Maths, English, ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages), GCSE Biology, various IT & Business courses, Counselling and Mentoring Skills, Modern Foreign Languages (MFL), British Sign Language (BSL), Floristry, Sewing & Textiles, Arts & Crafts, as well as a range of SEND courses for Learners with Disabilities and Learning Difficulties, and short introductory courses.
Further information about our courses can be found on the BAES Homepage at https://www.learnbaes.ac.uk/
Experience is not essential. However, we need volunteers who have good communication skills, can work effectively with others, can demonstrate empathy, patience, as well as a readiness to undertake all relevant training and procedures required for the role.
Volunteers recruited in core subjects such as Maths and English Language are expected to hold Level 2 qualifications. No payments are made to volunteers. However, when available, there are opportunities for in-house training and personal development to build on current skills and to support volunteers to work more effectively. Progression into paid employment, where appropriate, is also encouraged. Travel expenses for public transport can be claimed by volunteers who request it.
Right to Work checks and references will be required. In addition, a DBS check must be completed before volunteer placements are confirmed. This is at no cost to the volunteer.
Our volunteers play a vital role in helping our adult learners to achieve their personal and career goals! So, join us today in this very rewarding role!
We are extremely grateful for offers of additional support from the community for the community!Birmingham Adult Education Service
